The Starting Line

I grew up in Pasadena, Texas by way of Saigon, Vietnam. My parents instilled in me the “Immigrant Mentality” – work hard, study hard and the American Dream can be yours. Life was tough at times for my four siblings and I but we had some help along the way. Mr. Glenn Leon Rogers, the man I was named after, help my family navigate life in a new country. And he gave me one of the most important lessons in my life. “If you find yourself to be fortunate in this life then always pay it forward.”

Path to Dentistry

I wasn't always interested in becoming a dentist. During my college years, teeth, gums, and saliva were the furthest things from my mind. But, as luck would have it, my sister, who was also a dentist, needed someone to assist her in her office. So, after a week of serving as her "Dental Assistant," she asked me a question that would forever change my life. "Do you want to live the rest of your life as a loser?" And, of course, I didn't, which prompted a lengthy discussion about why I would make a good dentist.

Meeting my wife in Dental School was one of the best things that ever happened to me. We co-founded Denton Smiles Dentistry in Denton, Texas. We were able to build the Million Dollar practice of our dreams with a lot of hard work and the assistance of incredible mentors. My goal was to have an impact not only on the lives of my patients, but also on the lives of my team. I thought I was finished. However, a mentor challenged me to have an impact outside of the four walls of my practice.
